Holonic Production and Material Flow in Industry

چکیده
1. Introduction The automotive industry is one of the most automated manufacturing industries worldwide nevertheless there is still a lot of potential for further improvements. On the given example of an existing production plant at DaimlerChrysler AG a new holonic concept has been developed by HMS partners breaking up rigid transfer line structures and introducing new concepts of flexible resource allocation and material flow. As result, the performed holonic redesign of engine assembly and related material flow processes leads to a significant increase of throughput and productivity. These results are reached by consequent introduction of agent based control structures, additional break-out stations and Holonic Autonomous Guided Vehicles (H-AGVs). Evidence is given by comprehensive simulation tests performed at DaimlerChrysler and Fraunhofer IPA.

Achieving holonic control - an incremental approach
Holonic manufacturing is a concept of considerable promise as it can provide the flexibility and responsiveness required by virtual enterprises. However, if this promise is to be realised, two key issues need to be addressed. First, migration strategies must be developed to enable existing manufacturing systems using conventional controller technology to progressively incorporate holonic manufa...
متن کاملHolonic-based Control System for Automated Material Handling Systems
In real-word manufacturing environments, finding the right job sequences and their associated schedules when resource, precedence, and timing constraints are imposed is a difficult task. For most practical problems classical scheduling easily leads to an exponential growth in the number of possible schedules. Moreover, a decision time period of hours or even minutes is too long. Good solutions ...
متن کاملMaterial-flow Modeling Technology and Its Application in Manufacturing Execution Systems of Petrochemical Industry
The management and control of material flow forms the core of manufacturing execution systems (MES) in the petrochemical industry. The bottleneck in the application of MES is the ability to match the material-flow model with the production processes. A dynamic material-flow model is proposed in this paper after an analysis of the material-flow characteristics of the production process in a petr...
متن کاملDevelopments in Holonic Production Planning and Control
The field of Holonic Manufacturing was initiated in the early 1990's to address the upcoming challenges for manufacturing operations in the 21 century. It is intended to support for highly responsive organisations by providing a modular building-block or "plug and play" capability for developing and operating a manufacturing production system in order to support a more responsive organisation. ...
متن کاملShape Selective Pillared Clay Catalysts for P-Xylene Production
Shape selective xylene production is very important in the polymer industry because of its extensive use as raw material for monomer preparation. The acidity associated with the Lewis and Broensted centers present in the pillars interlayered clay and its textural properties allows good catalytic activity and shape selectivity toward p-xylene production. So, in the present study, ultrasonic and ...
